A small 15 g size, a melting, slightly rich cream and an unusual sensation: a discreet tingling for a few minutes after application. This tingling comes from spicules, tiny natural needles derived from marine sponge, which Mary&May combines with collagen and PDRN in an evening care product geared towards firmness and comfort.

A collagen and PDRN cream, boosted with marine spicules

In the INCI list, the spicules appear under the name Hydrolyzed Sponge. They create a micro-stimulation of the surface: the relief looks smoother, the texture tighter, and products applied afterwards absorb better, according to the brand.

  • Hydrolysed collagen: too bulky to reach the deeper layers, it forms a film on the surface that holds in water and gives a plumper look for the duration of wear.
  • PDRN (Sodium DNA): these DNA fragments are very popular in Korea. The solid data concern their use in injections; in a cream, they mainly play a hydrating and comfort role. They appear in last position on the list.
  • The soothing base: panthenol, niacinamide, allantoin, ceramide NP, cholesterol, sodium hyaluronate and polyglutamic acid offset the discomfort caused by the spicules.

How to use it

In the evening, on clean, dry skin, spread a small hazelnut-sized amount over the face without rubbing. The tingling is normal for the first few minutes and should remain bearable.

  • Start with two or three evenings a week, then increase if the skin tolerates it.
  • Not straight after a scrub, nor on the same evening as an exfoliating acid, a retinoid or a pure vitamin C.
  • The next morning, apply sunscreen.

Which skin is it for?

It is intended for dry or mature skin, with slightly uneven relief, that wants a firming care product without moving to retinol. Avoid it on broken, irritated or freshly exfoliated skin; very reactive skin should first test it behind the ear. As a precaution, it is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Other firming products are gathered in the anti-ageing and firmness selection.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference from the Spicule Retinol PDRN Cream?

The Retinol version adds retinol and, according to the brand, more spicules: it is more intense. The Collagen version is the gentler of the two, ideal for discovering spicules.

Is the tingling normal?

Yes, it is due to the spicules and fades within a few minutes. Sharp burning or redness that lasts means you should stop.

Can it be applied in the morning?

It is possible on skin that is used to it, under a sunscreen. The evening remains the most comfortable time, as the skin is then neither made up nor exposed.

How long does the 15 g size last?

A small hazelnut-sized amount covers the whole face. At a few evenings a week, this size lets you try the spicules for several weeks.

A gentle way to try Korean spicules in the evening, alongside the textures in the Korean face cream range.
