Bakhoor Raghba 40 g — Lattafa
Lattafa's Raghba bakhoor comes in a 40 g jar. It takes up the signature of the eau de parfum of the same name — sugar, incense, vanilla, oud, sandalwood — in the traditional form: scented chips melted with heat to release a fragrant smoke.
What bakhoor is
Bakhoor is the oldest way of perfuming a home in the Arabian peninsula. Neither sticks nor a spray: pieces of wood or paste soaked in perfumed oils, heated until they give off their smoke. The difference with an air freshener is clear — the smoke penetrates fabrics and stays there for several days, where a spray fades within hours.
How to burn it
On charcoal: light a tablet in an incense burner until it glows red and is covered in white ash, then place a single small piece of bakhoor on it. It melts and smokes for several minutes.
On an electric burner: simpler and flameless. The heat being gentler, the diffusion is slower and longer, and the smell less smoky.
Dosing: a piece the size of a grain of rice is enough for a room. This is the most frequent mistake — bakhoor is far more concentrated than stick incense.
Perfuming clothes: pass a garment or scarf over the smoke for a few seconds. That is the traditional use, and longevity on fabric is remarkable.
Ventilate after use. Never leave a glowing charcoal unattended, always place the burner on a heat-resistant surface, and keep it out of reach of children and pets.
