Afnan

Afnan Perfumes is an Emirati house from Sharjah, known for a single line that went around the world: 9pm. Highly dosed eaux de parfum, built in a more Western way than most Gulf houses — amber, vanilla, fruit, woods — and wearable from the office to the evening. The 9pm line

• 9pm — the original: apple, cinnamon and lavandin on top, lily of the valley and orange blossom in the heart, patchouli, vanilla, amber and tonka bean in the base. A sweet-spicy scent with a masculine lean, ten to fourteen hours according to wearers, for evenings and the cold season. The entry point to the brand.
• 9pm Rebel — mandarin, pineapple and Granny Smith apple to open, cedar and oakmoss in the heart, caramel, dry woods and ambergris in the base. Fresher and woodier than the original, eight to ten hours. The 9pm for daytime.
• 9pm Elixir — as an extrait de parfum: nutmeg, elemi and cardamom, then pimento, lavandin and leather, over vanilla and patchouli. The densest and longest-lasting version.
• 9pm Night Out — also an extrait: dragon fruit, apple, bergamot and cognac, cardamom, suede and toffee, fine woods and tonka. The 9pm for going out.
• 9pm pour femme — the feminine, more floral reading of the accord.

9 am, Supremacy, Turathi

9 am Dive is the morning counterpart to 9pm: lemon, mint and pink pepper on top, incense and cedar in the heart, patchouli and sandalwood in the base — a fresh woody scent, not an aquatic despite the name, for summer and the office. Supremacy Collector's Edition opens with pineapple, bergamot and apple, moves through birch and amber and ends on oakmoss, musk and ambergris: a fruity chypre for men, seven to nine hours, in a collector's bottle. Turathi, 90 ml, is the most oriental reference of the house: citrus on top, amber and woods in the heart, musk, spices and patchouli in the base.

Eau de parfum or extrait

Afnan offers 9pm in both concentrations. The eau de parfum (9pm, Rebel, 9 am) is sprayed two or three times and lasts through the day. The extrait (Elixir, Night Out) contains more oils: two sprays are enough, projection is denser, longevity longer, but with a lighter hand indoors. When in doubt, start with the eau de parfum.
