Why rose and oud go together
It is the founding accord of oriental perfumery, and it rests on a contrast. Oud is a resinous, dry, almost leathery wood, with an animalic facet some find medicinal at first contact. Rose is fresh, honeyed, slightly tart. Set on the oud, it softens its harshness; in return, the oud keeps the rose from turning into a banal floral bouquet. Neither dominates, and it is precisely from this tension that the unisex character of the composition is born.
The word Satin in the name describes the treatment chosen here well: the powdery, soft violet on top and the vanilla in the base round off the edges. A velvety reading of the accord, not a raw one.
