Rose and agarwood, face to face

Rose Oud stages the most emblematic accord of Gulf perfumery: rose, opulent and slightly honeyed, leaning on agarwood, dark and resinous. Maison Alhambra gives it a dense, warm reading, with the dominant accords of the genre — woody, oud, fruity, soft and warm-spicy — and that slightly animalic character oud always brings in the base. Not a discreet perfume: it takes up space and gets noticed.

For whom, when

Gender: unisex. Rose gives it a feminine facet, oud a frankly masculine footing.
Season: autumn and winter. In summer it quickly becomes heavy.
Occasion: evenings, occasions, dressed-up outfits. A going-out perfume more than an office one.
Estimated longevity: 6 to 8 hours on skin, more on clothes where oud persists for a long time.

How to wear it

Two sprays are more than enough. Oud-based compositions are dosed downwards: better to add than to have put too much.
Apply on the skin rather than on clothes: woody and resinous notes durably mark light fabrics.
Spray on moisturised skin: oud holds better and softens on supple skin.
Store the bottle upright, away from light and heat.
