Jean Lowe Matière completes the Jean Lowe series from Maison Alhambra in 100 ml. The “Matière” qualifier sets this version apart from the Noir, Fraîche and Immortal of the same family: it is the most resinous of the four, the one that pushes incense and oud to the forefront of the base.

How it unfolds

The opening is floral and green: narcissus has that hay-like, slightly animalic side that sets it apart from ordinary white flowers, and jasmine brightens it. No citrus here — the fragrance gets straight to the point.

The rose-cyclamen heart softens and widens, the cyclamen bringing that watery freshness that keeps the rose from seeming heavy. Then the base tips over: incense, oud and patchouli set up the oriental part, smoky and earthy. It is from this last accord that the name comes — matière, in the sense of texture.

Who it is for, and when

A floral woody profile wearable as unisex, with an evening and cold-season orientation: incense and oud need cool air to express themselves well. Two sprays are enough, the base clinging to fabric.
