Ameerat Al Arab means “the princess of the Arabs”. This bakhour, a traditional Gulf incense that is heated to scent the home, is by Ard Al Zaafaran, a Dubai perfume house. It comes in a red box edged with gold, with a light-coloured cartouche bearing “Bukhoor Ameerat Al Arab” in Arabic calligraphy and in English, with a net weight of 40 g.
The format
Bakhour comes as a pressed tablet, which you break into small pieces when you use it: this way you adjust the amount to the size of the room. The box does not list the notes of this bakhour; rather than give you an uncertain pyramid, we prefer not to publish one.
Who it’s for, when to use it
To scent a living space, an office or an entrance, and the fabrics in it. Bakhour is traditionally diffused to receive guests or to mark celebrations such as Ramadan and Eid. With its red and gold box, it also has its place in a gift basket, alongside an incense burner.
How to use
On charcoal: heat a charcoal disc until it glows red, place it in a heat-resistant incense burner, then put a small piece of bakhour on top.
On an electric burner: place the piece on the heating plate, without flame or charcoal, and set the heat according to the model.
One small piece is enough for a room; add a second one if you want a stronger diffusion. Let the smoke circulate, then air the room. Close the box after use to protect the tablet from moisture.
